You can read the whole installation process clearly from this guide—including how to remove the factory sill and test after all installation. The door sill lights are suitable for all Cadillac models such as the XT4, XT5, XT6, CT4, CT5, CT6, CTS, ATS, XTS, and Escalade.

Understanding How Door Sill Lights Work

Before you start, you need to understand what you are fitting with this. What is included in the LED door sill lights? There is a thin LED strip or illuminated nameplate inside a metal or ABS housing. You can either clip the housing into the factory door sill trim channel or adhere with a prepared double-sided adhesive pad. You can get power by connecting a thin trigger wire to the door open signal in the B-pillar wiring. When the door opens, the door sill lights turn on to finish the circuit. When the door closes, it will turn off by itself. You do not need any switches, timers, or smartphone app — the operation is entirely automatic and reliable in the long run.

We offer two different versions of Cadillac LED door sill lights. You can choose the first white single-colour version if you want a clean look. You can select an RGB multicolor version which can change different colors whenever you open the door. Also, you can follow the same installation methods for both versions.

What You Will Need

  • LED door sill light kit — confirm model compatibility before ordering
  • Plastic trim removal tool or flat plastic pry tool (avoid metal tools)
  • Clean microfibre cloth
  • Isopropyl alcohol wipe
  • Small flat-head screwdriver for clip locations
  • Optional: multimeter (confirm the door open trigger wire)
  • Optional: wire tap connector (if you do not want to splice)

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1 — Open the door fully and locate the sill trim

You need to open the door to the largest angle so that you can have enough working space. You should know the sill trim is the plastic or carpet-edged panel. They usually runs along the floor and you can see them between the inside and the outside of the car. You will find that on most Cadillac cars, the sill is a long, narrow panel. It is secured by plastic clips, and sometimes screws are used to secure both ends. You should search for any screws you can see and remove them first before trying to pry the panel free.

Step 2 — Remove the factory sill trim panel

You should insert the plastic pry tool under the edge of the sill trim panel at one end. You can release each clip one by one slowly along the length of the panel. You should not force the panel. If you feel hard to take off the sill, you need check if you may have missed a clip or screw. The sill panels of the Escalade and XT6 are longer. There are also more clips than the sedan models. So you should work slowly. You can put the removed panel on a clean surface to avoid any scratches.

Step 3 — Clean the mounting channel

After you have removed the factory trim, you will see the bare metal or painted sill channel below. You need to clean up this area carefully with an isopropyl alcohol wipe. In this way you can remove any dust, grease, or factory adhesive residue. This step is important. You can stick the adhesive pad firmly on your new LED housing bonds and will not lift over time. What’s more, you need to let it to dry fully before you do next tips.

Step 4 — Test fit the LED sill light

You need to do a dry test fit of the LED housing in the sill channel before you remove the adhesive backing. You need to check that it can be installed flatly. Also, you should make sure the length can fit your car. Then you should connect the wire from the correct end to reach the B-pillar wiring. After that, you do not need to reinstall for any mistakes.

Step 5 — Bond the LED housing into position

You should take off the backing from the adhesive pad. Then you can press the LED housing into the sill channel and keep it firm and even. You can start from one end and toward the other. Next, you need to press the full length of the housing for 30 seconds. You should know the adhesive will be firm in about 10 minutes, but it will get full strength after about 24 hours. You should not open or close the door for the first hour if possible.

Step 6 — Route and connect the trigger wire

You should feed the thin power wire toward the B-pillar trim. Remember to install along the edge of the sill channel. The B-pillar is the vertical panel between the front and rear doors. You can take off or remove the lower B-pillar trim softly to touch the wiring behind it. You need to find the door open signal wire which is usually a green, green-white, or brown wire.

The exact color depends on your model year. You can find the correct color for your specific model in the instruction sheet.
You can connect with a wire tap connector (no cutting required) or a clean splice with heat-shrink tubing. You should test the connection before installing the trim again. You can open or close the door to confirm the LED can turn on or turn off correctly.

Step 7 — Refit all trim panels and test

You can put the B-pillar trim back to original place. Then you need to install the sill trim panel. You should align the clips and press firmly along its length until you hear audible click in each clip. Next, you can put back the screws you removed. You can open and close the door several times to confirm it works. You just need to repeat the process on the other three doors if you finish the first door.

Single Colour vs RGB — Which to Choose

You can choose white single-color sill lights if you want to keep the original style. In this way, the door sill can keep clean and bright, like other luxury manufacturers design at first. But you need RGB multicolor lights if you want a more expressive night-time effect. You often do other LED upgrades together with the door sills. You can choose the one you like and they will not affect installation time or difficulty.

Troubleshooting

If you find the LED does not work after installation, there are some common reasons: Firstly, the lights may keep on. In this case, the trigger wire may be connected to a constant-live wire. You can change to the door open signal. Secondly, the LED lights may look dim or not function. Maybe adhesive backing was not fully removed before you stuck it. You can correct both problems easily. You don’t need to remove the sill light itself.

Pair These With
